Dawn Bratsch-Prince is Associate Provost for Faculty and professor of Spanish at Iowa State University. In this role, she provides leadership in recruiting, advancing, and retaining excellent faculty. Among her responsibilities are faculty development and success; orientation and mentoring; promotion, tenure and advancement; honors and recognitions; Faculty Handbook policy development; faculty conduct, grievances, and appeals; and programming for department chairs, school directors, and emerging campus leaders. She leads development of policies and initiatives that further Iowa State University's strategic goal of cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where students, faculty, and staff flourish. Bratsch-Prince has oversight of the Office of Institutional Research, the ISU Ombuds Office, and the ISU ADVANCE Program. 

Prior to her appointment as associate provost, Bratsch-Prince served from 2007-2010 as associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences where her portfolio included international activities and study abroad; distance and online education; faculty orientation; and faculty and staff awards in the College. She served as director of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences International Studies Program and was interim director of the Women's Studies Program.

A member of the Iowa State faculty since 1990, Bratsch-Prince served as chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures from 2002-2008.  As chair, Bratsch-Prince led a realignment of the department’s mission and broadened its emphasis to better serve students who seek credentials in another language and culture. She was key to the development of a second major in Languages and Cultures for Professions (LCP), the establishment of student internships, the formal renaming of the department, and the creation of a unified major in World Languages and Cultures. She has been recognized with both the College- and University-level awards for Outstanding Departmental Leadership. She was recognized by the Iowa World Language Association for her work on articulation and advocacy in world language education. She served as a member of the Executive Committee of the MLA’s Association of Departments of Foreign Languages (ADFL), and served as ADFL president in 2010.  

Bratsch-Prince’s research interests in medieval Iberian studies are broad. She has published two books as well as numerous articles on historical linguistics, medieval translation, women’s writings, the politics of marriage and motherhood, and canon formation. 

Bratsch-Prince is a native of Brooklyn, New York, and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Spanish from New York University. She holds a doctoral degree in Romance Philology from the University of California at Berkeley.
