Summertime in Ames where we’re enjoying Iowa State’s lovely campus and quiet streets – except for the road and building construction!
The Women’s and Gender Studies Program has had an impressive global reach this summer. Students and WGS faculty traveled to Trieste, Italy where they explored the culture, history, and ‘artistic expressions of place’ in this vibrant city. I also spent a month in Scandinavia as a visiting professor at Gothenburg University. Sweden and Norway are the land of the midnight sun, so it was fun to experience the fjords, sea, and cuisine of this region all day and night!

And the Women’s World Cup captured our attention as the US women’s soccer team played some tough matches before their final victory in Lyon, France! This tremendous achievement is also a tribute to the legacy of Title IX and gender equality in sports. (For further studies on Gender Issues in Sports, consider taking the online section of WGS 450 in Spring 2020!)

Although the fall semester is just around the corner, I hope you are enjoying summer wherever you are. We look forward to seeing you in classes and on campus in a few short months.

In the meantime, please share your summer adventures and activities with us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.

Regards from Central Iowa!
